Walter M. Keller, age 40 of Marine, IL, died Monday, January 26, 2015, at Deceased’s Residence in Marine, IL. He was born on Saturday, June 08, 1974, in Granite City, IL, the son of Eugene W. “Gene” Keller and Janet Keller Hall, (nee Faires). Mr. Keller was a graduate of McClure North/North County Technical High School in Florissant, MO and received an Associates Degree in Diesel Technology from Lincoln Technical Institute in Indianapolis, IN. He worked as a mechanic, construction worker, and in golf course maintenance. He enjoyed fishing. Survivors include: Mother – Janet Keller (Wilbur “Bub”) Hall, nee Faires, Saint Louis, MO Father – Eugene W. “Gene” Keller, Florissant, MO Sister – Sharon L. Betty Jean Jacober, age 88 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, January 29, 2015, at Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. She was born December 22, 1926, in East Saint Louis, IL, the daughter of Patrick M. and Pauline Conroy (nee Bioessau) Hicks. On April 19, 1952, she married Anthony J. “Tony” Jacober who passed away on September 05, 1998. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. She was also a member of St. Anne Altar Society; Ladies Auxiliary to VFW Post 5694 in Highland; and the Weinheimer Senior Citizen’s Club. Mrs. Jacober was born and grew up in East St. Louis, IL. She had worked at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company in East St. Louis for 10 years. Following her marriage, she and her husband lived in the East St. Louis/Caseyville area from 1952 until moving to Highland in 1972. In their retirement, they enjoyed traveling to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, and all over the United States. Mrs. Jacober helped at the VFW fish-fries and donated time with the Clinton County Association for the developmentally disabled. Survivors include : Daughter – Theresa Rene Jacober, Centralia, IL Cousin – Venita J. (Bernard) Vermillion, Glen Carbon, IL Nieces and Nephews – Several . She was preceded in death by: Father – Patrick M. Ralph W. Kuhlengel, age 92 of Trenton, IL, died Saturday, January 31, 2015, at Deceased’s Residence in Trenton, IL. He was born on Saturday, February 11, 1922, in Covington, IL, the son of Edward and Ida (nee Muenning) Kuhlengel. On Sunday, August 25, 1946, he married Dolores L. Kuhlengel (nee Reinhardt) who survives. He was a member of Hope Lutheran Church, Highland, IL; Trenton VFW Post 7983, Trenton, IL; International Assn. of Machinists and Aerospace Workers Local #837(65 Years in 2013), St. Louis, MO; Farm Bureau of Clinton County. Mr. Kuhlengel was born in Washington County, Convington Township, Illinois. He attended St. Luke’s Lutheran School in Covington. He served with the U.S. Navy in the Pacific during WWII with the USS Chaffee, 7th Fleet as a Machinist Mate, second class. He then worked for McDonnell Douglas as a tool and die maker. He was born on Wednesday, June 16, 1926, in Bingham, IL, the son of Everett and Bessie (nee Meyer) Harris. On Sunday, June 18, 1950, he married Delores M. Harris nee Stoecklin. Born at Bingham, IL. He attended Alhambra School till the 11th grade then went to Edwardsville High School and graduated in 1944. He served with the US Navy during WWII. He worked for Illinois Central Railroad as a Telegraph Operator for 40 years. He was an avid quail hunter and had bird dogs for over 50 years. Raymond Arkel Werner, age 78 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, February 7, 2015, at Faith Countryside Homes/Faith Care Center in Highland, IL. He was born on Thursday, January 14, 1937, in Clay City, IL, the son of Arthur Henry “Otto” and Edith Idarea (nee Koehler) Werner. On Saturday, October 18, 1958, he married Cornelia Emma “Connie” Werner (nee Korte) who survives. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Knights of Columbus #1580, Highland, IL; Illinois Potable Water Supply Operators Assoc. (Past President 1998-1999) (Surface Water Operator of the Year for IL in 1990); Collinsville Quail Club. Mr. Werner was born in Clay City, IL and moved to Highland at age five. He graduated from Highland High School in 1954 and worked at Hug’s Meat Market. In September of 1960, he started working for the City of Highland. He worked for the City of Highland for 39 years; retiring as the Supervisor of the Water Plant at age 62. He loved his grandchildren and great grandchild. He enjoyed mushroom hunting and his annual trout fishing trips to Montauk State Park, MO. His foremost hobbies were hunting and fishing. He raised quail for the conservation department and provided for the ducks at Highland Silver Lake. He also raised a large garden of vegetables and flowers, especially Iris. He was born on Thursday, October 24, 1934, in Hamel, IL, the son of Erwin and Martha (nee Schroeder) Boeker. On Saturday, September 06, 1958, he married Margie A. Boeker nee Abert who survives. He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Hamel, IL; Southern Illinois Builders Association, Board of Directors (3 years); Village of Hamel, Trustee (1977-1987); Village of Hamel, Mayor (1987-1995); Bond Madison Water Company (Board Member); former member of the Hamel Volunteer Fire Department.. Mr. Boeker was born in Hamel, IL. He graduated from Edwardsville High School in 1952 and began his career in construction as a residential carpenter apprentice at Wm. Ohm & Son in Hamel, IL. From 1954-1956, he joined the U.S. Army, active duty in Germany. In the mid-1950’s he worked as a carpenter for H.F. Martin Construction in Hamel, IL and then for Hellrung Construction in Alton, IL, promoted to a foreman on commercial construction projects, until 1966. In 1966, he started R.W. Timothy S. “Tim” Bergfield, age 41 of Richmond Hill, GA, died Friday, January 30, 2015, at Memorial Health Medical Center in Savannah, GA. He was born on Wednesday, January 31, 1973, in Idaho Falls, ID, the son of Gene R. and Juanita P. (nee Kapp) Bergfield. Tim was born at Idaho Falls, ID; reared thru out the country(California, Illinois, Pennsylvania, Florida). He graduated Oviedo High School in 1991, in Oviedo, Florida. He received his AA in Liberal Arts at Central Texas College, Hinesville, GA. He had owned a Cell Phone and Santa Pen Business that sold Christmas Ornaments. He worked as a General Manager for America’s Best Contacts and Eyeglasses in Savannah, Georgia, as a Licensed Dispensing Optician. After Optician, he was a good salesman and had awards in sales. He served in the US Army, with duties overseas and received medals for high regard for achievements. His children were his world. He enjoyed helping others, shared his knowledge and loved learning new things. One thing on his bucket list was to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). Survivors include: Mother – Juanita P. Julia Marie White, age 57 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, February 07, 2015, East of Madison/Clinton Counnty line on St.Rose Rd. as the result of an auto accident. She was born March 24, 1957, in St. Louis, MO, the daughter of Mario Joseph and Ruth Mildred (nee Leonard) Cirio Sr. On February 14, 1982 she married Michael G. White. She grew up in University City, MO; earned a nursing degree from Deaconess Hospital School of Nursing; later received a BSN in nursing. She has worked at SSM St. Mary’s Health Center in Clayton, MO, since earning her degree. She has worked in the ICU, Cancer Critical Care, Emergency Room, many areas. Julia loved to bike and had “ridden across Nebraska” several times with her best friend, Karen. She also enjoyed swimming, Yoga, aerobics, and working out at the Korte Rec Center. She attended many nursing conventions; liked to do counted cross-stitch; photography; and was a “crazy cat lady”. She and Michael had traveled to Russia, China, Africa, Japan, Australia, Switzerland, Western Europe. On their trips, they would visit orphanages and provide supplies and take residents shopping. Mr. and Mrs. White died in an automobile accident on Saturday, February 7, 2015 east of Highland, IL. Survivors include : Daughter – Susan M. Michael G. White, age 67 of Highland, IL, died Saturday, February 07, 2015, East of Madison/Clinton County line on St.Rose Road from the result of an auto accident. He was born June 16, 1947, in St. Louis, MO, the son of Clyde Lee White and Helen Mae (nee Barnett) Delschmitt. On February 14, 1982, he married Julia Marie Cirio. He was a member of Highland Pistol and Rifle Club; NRA; U.S. Fencing Association; Korte Recreation Center; Sand Casting Classes at SWIC; Former Member of the Highland Jaycees. Mr. White grew up in Trenton, IL. He was a 1965 graduate of Wesclin High School. He attended Rankin Technical School and worked for Amtrak for a number of years. He designed irrigation systems for Midwest Golf, Munie Outdoor Services, and Stonewolf Golf Course; retiring at age 62. He was an avid collector and attended street rod shows and frog follies every year. He drove Stock Car #43 at Highland Speedway. He and his wife, Julia had traveled to Russia, China, Africa, Japan, Australia, Switzerland, Western Europe. On their trips, they would visit orphanages and provide supplies and take residents shopping. Mr. and Mrs. White died in an automobile accident on Saturday, February 7, 2015, east of Highland, IL. (nee Weder) Zobrist. On August 17, 1973, he married Paulette Marie Brooks who survives. He was a member of Highland Sportsman Club; District 9 Machinists. Tommy was born in Highland and grew up on 12th Street. He was a 1969 graduate of Highland High School. He attended Bailey Technical Institute for 2 years. He had been a mechanic until 1995. He earned a Computer Science Degree from Southwest IL College. He worked as Learning resources Lab Assistant at SWIC until 2005. He worked as a clerk at CC Foodmart in Pierron until 2012, when he retired. He enjoyed bowling, fishing, hunting, watching wrestling on TV, and rebuilding computers. Mildred (Millie) Wieneke Hecht, 93, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 8, 2015 at 11:08 PM at Faith Countryside Home/Faith Care Center in Highland, Illinois. Millie was born December 3, 1921, in Golden Eagle, Illinois, to George C. and Mary Ella Wieneke. Later her family moved to Brussels, IL; where she grew up. Millie moved to St. Louis, MO, to attend LPN school. After graduating, she worked as a private duty nurse. Millie also worked at Carter Carburetor at the beginning of WWII. On her 21st Birthday (1942), she joined the WAAC which later became the WAC (Women Army Corp). After basic training and specialist school at Des Moines, IA, she was assigned to recruiting duty at Buffalo, NY and Niagara Falls, NY. After WWII ended, Millie was reassigned to duty at Fort Dix, NY. On January 4, 1946, she was discharged and returned to St. Louis, MO. While in the service, Millie met Reinhardt (Reiny) Hecht in New York City. Reiny was also in the army and had served overseas. Reiny arrived back in the states on March 10, 1946, and they were married at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Brussels on May 4, 1946. They lived in Lansing and Alton, IL, before moving to Highland after buying the Ford dealership in 1955. Millie was a homemaker but also worked with Reiny in the office at Hecht Ford Sales. After selling the dealership in 1967, she worked at Seitz Jewelry for many years. Reiny preceded her in death on October 16, 2001. Millie was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. In her earlier years she loved being a Sunday School teacher and working with the teenagers at Hope. She was a past President of the VFW Post 5694 Ladies Auxiliary, past president of the VFW Madison County council, past President of VFW 12th District, served as color bearer for the VFW Auxiliary Department of Illinois, and a member of the Highland American Legion Auxiliary 439. Millie is survived by a son – Gregory G. Hecht, Guntersville, AL; a daughter – Suzanne H. (Brent) DeWitt, Springfield, IL; five grandchildren – Christopher P. (Bridget) DeWitt, Mahomet, IL; Stephanie L. (Jason) Sukut, Springfield, IL; Nathaniel B. (Jamie) DeWitt, Maryville, IL; Janelle R. (Michael) Kloos, Trenton, IL; Colin G. (Catherine Byers) Hecht, Colorado Springs, CO; six great grandchildren – Dylan P. DeWitt, Mahomet, IL; Kaitlyn N. DeWitt, Mahomet, IL; Megan B. DeWitt, Mahomet, IL; Kylee A. Dorothy E. Roe, age 94 of Highland, IL, died Friday, February 13, 2015, at Legacy Place in Highland, IL. She was born July 10, 1920, in Quincy, IL, the daughter of Albert E. and Edith M. (nee McConnell) Sorrill. On April 19, 1947, she married Isaiah F. Roe who passed away on March 18, 2003. She was a member of First Congregational Church of Highland. She was also a member of First Congregational Church-Highland; Order of Eastern Star, Highland Chapter #524-Highland; Delta Kappa Gamma (Honorary for Women Teachers); Kappa Delta Phi (Honorary Education Sorority); Sigma Zeta (National Math Honorary); Church Women Volunteers at the First Congregational church; Pierian Study Group-Highland; Christian Women’s Club-Highland. Mrs. Roe was born on a farm in Adams County, IL; the farm is now the site of the Quincy, IL, airport. She graduated from Quincy High School in 1937; earned a BS from Western Illinois University. During the WWII, she taught in rural schools in Adams County, Liberty High School and Havana Jr. High School for a total of seven years. She and her husband moved to Highland, IL in 1952. From 1957, until retiring in 1978, Mrs. Roe taught Geometry and Latin at Highland High School. Following her retirement,she volunteered with her church and other community groups including Meals-on-Wheels, several local nursing homes, Cub Scouts, Sunday School and church vacation Bible school. She was a private tutor. In the 1980’s she was a Pillsbury Bake-Off finalist. She was the faculty member who instituted the National Honor Society at Highland High School. Since 2011 Mrs. Roe has been a resident of Legacy Place assisted living center in Highland. Dolores L. Kuhlengel, age 90 of Trenton, IL, died Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Breese, IL. She was born March 12, 1924, in Covington, IL, the daughter of Albert C. and Leona (nee Evers) Reinhardt. On August 25, 1946, she married Ralph William Kuhlengel who passed away on January 31, 2015. She was a member of Hope Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Women’s Dorcus Circle and the Quilters at the church. Dolores was born in Covington, IL, where she grew up. She had worked at the Shoe Factory in Okawville and the Candy Factory in Centralia. After her marriage she worked at Emerson Electric in St. Louis and later as a Cook at Atonement Lutheran School in Florissant, Mo. In 1967 she and her husband moved to rural Clinton county to their farm, where she tended to the everyday duties of the farm wife. She loved to cook and bake. She also loved her vegetable garden and shared her bounty of the garden and baked goods for family, friends and neighbors. Survivors include : Son – Dr. Keith R. Harold Louis Edward Blase

Harold Louis Edward Blase, died peacefully at his home in Fort Worth on February 13, 2015. He was born September 29, 1923 on a farm southeast of Sylvan Grove, Kansas, to William and Emma (nee Meyer) Blase. The family moved to Illinois where Harold attended school, graduating from Edwardsville High School. Harold began his military career in 1941. He served in World War II, The Korean War, and The Vietnam War. One of his favorite accomplishments in his 27 years with the Army was starting the Sunday School program in New Ulm, Germany in 1961. He finished his Army career as Sgt Major with the ROTC program at Washington University, St. Louis. Harold had many adventures in his life and saw many countries. He received his BS in Accounting from Washington University in St.Louis, 1971. Harold is survived by the love of his life, Evelyn Eileen Blase. They married at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Hamel, IL on December 25, 1952 and recently celebrated their 62nd anniversary. He also is survived by their four children: Rodney Blase from Liberty, MO; Ed Blase and Patty Blase Homer Opert from Fort Worth, TX; Bill Blase and spouse Beverly from Round Rock, TX. Seven grandchildren, Sara Homer Booth, and Shelley Homer from Dallas, TX; Lindsey Blase-Brown and spouse Matt Brown, Michael Blase, and Ben Blase from Round Rock, Tx; Stacia Blase, and Troy Blase from Kansas City, MO. Three great grandchildren: Jacob Homer, Braden Booth, and Hannah Brown. Also survived by brothers: Wally Blase and wife Joey from Sun City, Arizona; Richard Blase from Lee Summit, Missouri. Sisters: Dorothy Wagner from Nashville, Illinois; and Kathy Shelton and spouse Jim, from Plano, Texas; and sister-in-laws Charlotte Blase from Vernon, Illinois and Elfrieda Blase from Collinsville, Illinois. In addition, many numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and loving friends. Harold was preceded in death by two of his brothers, Melvin Blase and William Blase, both of Illinois. Harold enjoyed many hobbies in his 91 years, everything from flying planes, to working in his garden, square dancing, volunteering as a fireman, helping at local hospitals and schools, and traveling with Eileen. In these later years, his love of computer games, card games, reading books and curling up for a good movie with Eileen were the special evenings. Closest to his heart, was his love for the Lord. The Blase’s were very active at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hamel, Illinois, St. Johns Lutheran in San Benito, Texas, Good Sheppard Lutheran in Azle, Texas and Messiah Lutheran in Keller, Texas. Visitation will be on Tuesday February 17, 2015 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the Biggers Funeral Home, Lake Worth Texas. Local arrangements are being handled by Dauderman Mortuary in Hamel, IL. Irene L. Hood, age 96 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, February 19, 2015, at her residence. She was born on November 26, 1918, in Highland, IL, the daughter of Fredrick and Louisa (nee Good) Rutz. On November 15, 1941, she married Benjamin “Ben” Franklin Hood who passed away on Monday, April 17, 1989. She was a member of Evangelical United Church of Christ. She was also a member of VFW Post 5694 Ladies Auxillary. Irene was born in Highland and worked at Moulton-Bartley Shoe Factory after the 8th grade. She worked there until they closed in the late 1940’s. She started working for Basler Electric in its infancy when the company worked in the Basler family garage. She worked there until 1952, and took off a year and a half to start her family. She returned to Basler Electric and retired in 1984 with over 30 years. In retirement she volunteered for the Blood Bank, Friday night Fish Fry’s at the VFW, active with her husband’s Shriner Activities, and helped whom ever asked. Msgt. Earl H. Schuerman, USAF Retired, age 84 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, February 19, 2015, at Saint Elizabeth’s Hospital in Belleville, IL. He was born November 21, 1930, in New Douglas, IL, the son of Harry and Irma E. (nee Fritsche) Schuerman. On September 16, 1955, he married Virginia E. Elmslie who survives. He was a member of Machinist Local #464 Group; Air Force Sergeant’s Association. Earl was born and grew up in New Douglas. He attended Mt. Calvary one room school. He was a graduate of Livingston High School in 1948. He briefly worked at Caterpillar in Peoria. He joined the US Air Force in 1951, and retired in 1971 at Pease Air Force Base in New Hampshire as Master Sergeant. During his 20 year career he had been stationed at Washington State, Germany, France, Kansas, Virginia, Hawaii, and the Netherlands. He had multiple deployments to Vietnam. His last years were in Air Rescue and Recovery as a Flight Engineer on a C130. He had also supported 3 moon shots. He returned to IL and worked at Olin Corp. for 15 years as a Mill Wright, retiring in 1993. He enjoyed small engine repair, gardening (loved turnips), and woodcraft. Chief Master Sgt. Richard T. Fagan, USAF Retired, age 88 of Mulberry Grove, IL, died Monday, February 23, 2015, at Highland Health Care Center in Highland, IL. He was born October 20, 1926, in Des Moines, IA, the son of James B. and Ruth H. (nee Hoover) Fagan. On November 25, 1947, he married Jean A. Wallace who passed away on September 19, 2013. Dick had a full life and was a proud American, devoting his life to public service. He joined the US Army in 1945 and served in the South Pacific Theater of operations at the end of WWII. He left the service for a short while and returned to duty in 1950, joining the 132nd Tactical Fighter Wing with the Iowa National Guard. He served with 30 years of service in the Guard with the rank of Chief Master Sgt., and was a full time Air Technician. In his last three years of service he accepted an active duty position with the National Guard Bureau in the Panama Canal Zone, acting as the Guard Liaison between the active duty and guard in support of Operation Coronet Cove. His leisure time was spent with his family, playing golf, bowling, and fishing. His retirement years were spent tinkering around the house and enjoying his grandchildren. He was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. He was also a member of Teamsters Local 525-Alton; Loyal Order of Moose #1561-Edwardsville,IL; Helvetia Sharpshooters Society; Pierron Improvement Club; Madison County Farm Bureau. Mr. Vosholler was born in Highland, IL and grew up on a farm South of Pierron, IL. After he attended Immaculate Conception School in Pierron, he helped on Lester Scheck’s farm and worked at Highland Box Corporation for several years. In 1954, he started his own grain, livestock, and dairy farm. He retired in 1990 and moved to Highland.He was also a truck driver for Munie Gravel-Keyesport, Pfister Trucking Company-Highland, Hoefken Concrete-Edwardsville, Highland Ready Mix, and Hamel Ready Mix, where he retired.He enjoyed watching TV, dancing, and going on bus tours with his wife.
