Thomas H. “Tom” Werner, age 79 of Pocahontas, IL, died Wednesday, December 31, 2014, at Saint Louis University Hospital in Saint Louis, MO. He was born on Monday, February 18, 1935, in Highland, IL, the son of Hugo E. and Hazel D. (nee Floro) Werner. On Saturday, February 13, 1960, he married Virginia E. Werner (nee Spihlman) who survives. He was a member of Greenville Country Club, Greenville, IL. He was born and reared in Highland, IL; graduated from Highland High School in 1953. He served with the US Navy from July 12, 1956 to June 13, 1958 with duty in Japan and Australia. He worked for Southern Illinois Railroad; Alton Box Board, Highland, IL; operated Greenville Bowl for 8 years. He retired in 1998 as a general manager for Arnold Bowl, Arnold, MO. He had been a pre-need counselor for Hoffmeister Funeral Home, St. Louis, Mo. He enjoyed golfing, bowling and working puzzles. He hit a hole in one in golf and bowled a 300 game. Weiss, Highland, IL Granddaughter – Kara C. Weiss, Highland, IL Great Grandchild – Aiden M. Lorch, Alton, IL Sister – Betty (Dale) Malan, Sun City, FL Sister In-law – Cheryl Werner, Helena, AL He was preceded in death by: Father – Hugo E. Werner (died 5/23/1985), Pocahontas, IL Mother – Hazel D. Werner (nee Floro) (died 4/7/1985) Sister – Lola Jean Malcolm Brother – James Werner Brother – Keith Werner (died 10/23/2006) Sister – Virginia Virgin Brother In-law – Dick Malcolm Sister In-law – Jean Werner Brother In-law – Harold “Doc” Virgin Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM on Friday, January 09, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL, and from 8:00 AM to 11:00 AM, on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, IL. Interment will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society.
