Joan B. Smith, age 79 of Highland, IL, died Thursday, December 04, 2014, at Legacy Place in Highland, IL. She was born on Thursday, April 04, 1935, in Golden Eagle, IL, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (nee Bimslagar) Hagen. On Saturday, May 19, 1956, she married Edwin R Smith who survives. She was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. She was born and raised in Golden Eagle, IL; graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic High School, Brussels, IL. She later graduated from Memorial Hospital, Springfield, IL, School of Nursing. She and her husband were married at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Brussels, IL. After marriage they lived in Chicago, IL. She worked for Corn Products, Argo, IL, as a occupational registered nurse, for 35 years until her retirement. She and her husband retired at Lake Catatoga, Carlinville, IL. They moved to Highland, IL, in 2010.She enjoyed cooking, sewing, golfing, caring for people and her job as a registered nurse. Survivors include: Husband – Edwin R. “Rich” Smith, Highland, IL Son – Craig L. (Cecile) Smith, Highland, IL Grandchildren – Two Great Grandchildren – Five Sister – Marion Kirn, Golden Eagle, IL She was preceded in death by: Father – Lawrence Hagen Mother – Mary Hagen (nee Bimslagar) Brother – Leroy Hagen Sister – Jane Kirn Sister – Janet Caselton Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois. Memorial Funeral Mass will be at 10:00 AM on Friday, December 12, 2014, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Meppen, IL, with Rev. Fr. Charles A. Edwards, Pastor of St. Paul Catholic Church, Highland, IL, officiating. Interment will be at 1;30 PM on Friday, December 12, 2014, at Indian Creek Cemetery in Hamburg, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Highland Animal Shelter.
