Arthur J. Flaiz, age 90 of Highland, IL, died Wednesday, January 07, 2015, at Saint Joseph Hospital in Highland, IL. He was born on Monday, December 29, 1924, in Quincy, IL, the son of Carl F. and Agnes (nee Bueter) Flaiz. On Monday, April 22, 1946, he married Dorothy Mae Flaiz (nee Padavic) who survives in Highland. He was a member of Saint Paul Catholic Church. He was also a member of Kinghts of Columbus Council #1580; V.F.W. Post 5694 of Highland; American Legion/Lee Iten Post #439; and St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary-Highland. Mr. Flaiz was born in Quincy, Illinois, and graduated from Quincy High School in 1943. He served with the U.S. Navy from 1943 to 1949 with duty in the South Pacific and served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1949 to 1964, having lived in Alabama, New York, New Jersey, and Tennessee. He was employed by the U.S. Post Office as a mailman from 1965 to 1980 in La Mirada, California. He retired in 1980 and moved to Highland. He was a part-time painter. He enjoyed his volunteer work, fishing, hunting, stamp collecting, bowling and tending his garden. Survivors include: Wife – Dorothy Mae Flaiz nee Padavic, Highland, IL Son – Paul J. (Sulvay) Flaiz, Highland, IL Daughter – Donna M. Wilborn, Highland, IL Daughter – Bonnie J. (Ted) Tilden, Oceanside, CA Six Grandchildren Eleven Great Grandchildren Two Great Great Grandchildren He was preceded in death by: Father – Carl F. Flaiz Mother – Agnes Flaiz nee Bueter Brother – Milford L. Flaiz Brother – Elmer Flaiz Brother – Carl Flaiz Brother – Robert Flaiz Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 12:00 PM to on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at VFW Post # 5694 in Highland, IL, and from to , on , at in , . Graveside service will be at 11:00 AM on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Saint Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Highland, IL, with Father Scott A. Snider, Parochial Vicar, officiating. Celebration of Life will be held at 12:00 PM on Saturday, January 24, 2015, at VFW Post # 5694 Hall in Highland, IL. Interment will be at St. Joseph Cemetery in Highland, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Saint Paul Catholic Church or St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary.
