Margaret J. Hommert, age 89 of Edwardsville, IL, died Saturday, September 06, 2014, at University Nursing & Rehab Center in Edwardsville, IL. She was born on Tuesday, December 16, 1924, in Poplar Bluff, MO, the daughter of Samuel and Georgia (nee Butts) Drysdale. On Friday, January 21, 1944, she married Alvin H. Hommert. She was a member of Eagles, Wood River, IL. Born at Poplar Bluff, MO. She met her husband at East Alton, IL; after marriage they lived at Edwardsville, IL, later Marine, IL and retired to Timberline, MO in the early 1980’s. She had worked for Trenton Shoe Factory, Marine Garment Factory and then Olin in East Alton for 21 years. She enjoyed bird watching and reading; was a Cub Scout Leader and Sunday School Teacher at the Marine E & R Church, Marine, IL; a loving person and loved by all.. Survivors include: Son – Ron A. (Vicki) Hommert, Arnold, MO Son – David L. (Debbie) Hommert, Marine, IL Grandchild – Andrea R. (Bryan) Gonterman, PhD, Boston, MA Grandchild – Nicole M. (Rick) Moyer, De Soto, MO Grandchild – Jamie L. (Scott) Mackenzie, Edwardsville, IL Grandchild – Brian R. Hommert, Glen Carbon, IL Grandchild – Jeffrey D.J. Hommert, Virden, IL Grandchild – Charlie (Jessie) Ray, Athens, AL Great Grandchildren – Ten She was preceded in death by: Father – Samuel Drysdale Mother – Georgia Mae Drysdale (nee Butts) Husband – Alvin H. Hommert (died 04/11/1999) Son – Richard H. Hommert (died 1967) Great Grandchild – Caitlyn Mackenzie Eleven Siblings Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL. Visitation will be held from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM Tuesday, September 09, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL and from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM, Wednesday, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM on Wednesday, September 10, 2014, at Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Marine, IL., with Terry Mabery, Church of Christ, Collinsville, IL, officiating. Interment will be at Valley View Cemetery in Edwardsville, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s Foundation or American Cancer Society.
