Blanche L. Jantzen

Blanche Lucy Jantzen, , age 89 of Highland, IL, died Sunday, February 02, 2014, at Bloomington Garden Villa in Bloomington, IN. She was born on Monday, December 01, 1924, in Bartelso, IL, the daughter of Louis David and Rose Eugenia (nee Poirot) Jantzen. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church-Highland, IL; St. Joseph Hospital Auxiliary. Blanche departed this world to join our Lord and Savior on Sunday Morning, February 2nd. As an historian, a librarian, a progressive democrat, an energetic volunteer, a dear friend and a steadfast pen and paper correspondent Blanche led an active and interesting life and worked and lived in cities across the United States including Bartelso, Chicago, Springfield and Highland, Illinois; Phoenix, Arizona; San Francisco, California; Notre Dame and Bloomington, Indiana and Greensboro, North Carolina. Blanche was beloved Aunt to a great many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and grand-nephews and is preceded in death by all but one of her four siblings. Blanche’s one remaining sister, Rosemary, says she rejoices with Blanche in the beginning- appropriately on Sunday Morning- of a new life without pain, suffering or unhappiness. Blanche had a special devotion to St. Francis of Assisi and will be missed by all who knew her. Survivors include : Sister – Rosemary Jantzen Doherty, Cedar, MI Niece – Lillian (Harvey) Doherty Luksenburg, Silver Spring , MD Niece – Rosemary E. Doherty (Vince Beyer), Bloomington, IN Niece – Susan (Kevin) Martin, York Springs, PA Niece – Katherine (Michael) Murphy, Chicago, IL Niece – Mary (Michael) Prestridge, Nauvoo, AL Niece – Margaret (Walter) Zdazinsky, St. Louis, MO Niece – Rebecca Jantzen, Mechanicsburg, PA Nephew – Michael (Roberta Adams) Doherty, Gloucester, MA Nephew – James (Julie) Jantzen, Gwinn, MI Great Niece – Lydia (Kevin) Martin Friend – Mary French, St. Louis, MO Nephew – Louis F. Jantzen Nephew – Steven Jantzen She was preceded in death by : Mother – Rose E. Jantzen nee Poirot Father – Louis D. Jantzen Brother – Severin E. Jantzen Brother – Louis P. Jantzen Brother – Dennis H. Jantzen Arrangements are being handled by Spengel-Boulanger Funeral Home in Highland, Illinois. Memorial Funeral Mass will be at 1:00 PM on Saturday, June 07, 2014, at St. Celecia Catholic Church in Bartelso, IL, with Father Jim Buerster officiating. Interment will be at St. Cecelia Catholic Cemetery in Bartelso, IL. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph Hospital Foundation.
